Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 27, 2026
Curious Cat Consulting, LLC builds Itemized Home. This policy explains what the app stores, what it does not, and the two services that receive limited information. If you only read one line, read this one: your inventory stays on your device, and we cannot see it.
1. Your inventory stays on your device
Itemized Home has no server of its own. There is no account to create, no sign-in, and no cloud sync. Everything you enter is written to storage on your phone or tablet and stays there. That includes:
- Items, with names, prices, values, quantities, makes, models, serial numbers, purchase dates and sources, and your notes
- Photos, videos, receipts, and manuals you attach, stored in the app’s own folder on your device
- Properties, including addresses, rooms, and cover photos
- Insurance details, including insurer, policy number, named insureds, mortgagee, agent contact information, coverage amounts, and deductibles
- Claims, including dates and causes of loss, claim numbers, damage notes, and claimed amounts
- Tags, custom fields, and your app preferences
We do not receive this information, we cannot access it, and we cannot recover it for you. If you delete the app, the data is deleted with it.
2. What does leave your device
Two services receive anything at all, and neither one gets the contents of your inventory.
Anonymous usage analytics (PostHog)
Released versions of the app can send anonymous product analytics to PostHog, which helps us see which features get used and where people get stuck. These events record counts and yes-or-no facts, never your content. For example, when you create an item we record that an item was created and whether it had a serial number or a photo attached. We do not record the item, the serial number, or the photo. When you run a search we record that a search happened and whether you used a room or tag filter. We do not record what you searched for.
Analytics are not tied to a name or an email, because the app never asks for either. They are disabled entirely in development builds.
Support chat (Crisp)
If you start a support conversation, the messages you send are processed by Crisp, our support chat provider, so that we can reply. The app also sends Crisp a device identifier provided by your operating system, so that a conversation stays continuous across sessions. Anything you choose to type or attach in a support chat is visible to us. Please do not paste policy numbers or other sensitive details into chat unless they are needed to answer your question.
3. Camera and photo access
The app asks for camera access to take photos and videos for your inventory and to scan receipts, manuals, and barcodes. It asks for photo library access when you pick existing photos to attach. Both prompts appear the first time you use the relevant feature, not at startup, and the app works without granting either one, with those features unavailable.
Photos you capture or select are copied into the app’s own storage on your device. They are not uploaded anywhere.
Itemized Home does not request location, contacts, or push notification access.
4. How your data is protected
Because your inventory never reaches a server, the main protection is your device itself. Data is stored in the app’s private storage area, which the operating system isolates from other apps and encrypts at rest when you have a passcode or biometric lock enabled. We recommend keeping one enabled.
We should be clear about one limit. The app does not add its own layer of encryption on top of the operating system’s. Additional at-rest encryption is on our roadmap. Until then, if you store sensitive material such as policy numbers or serial numbers, a device passcode is what protects it.
Because there is no cloud copy, losing your device means losing your inventory unless you have a backup. Back up your device to iCloud or a computer, and consider exporting a PDF or spreadsheet copy of your inventory somewhere safe.
5. What we never do
- We do not sell your personal information, and we never have.
- We do not share your inventory with insurers, adjusters, or anyone else. When you send a report or a Proof of Loss, you choose the recipient using your device’s own share sheet.
- We do not display advertising, and we do not embed advertising or tracking networks.
- We do not build advertising profiles or track you across other apps and websites.
6. Your choices and rights
You have direct control over everything the app stores. You can edit or delete any item, property, claim, or photo at any time, and deleting the app removes all of it from your device.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, or to object to certain processing. Most of those are already covered by how the app works, since we do not hold your inventory in the first place. For the limited data our providers process on our behalf, contact us and we will honor your request as the law requires.
7. Children
Itemized Home is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided information through our support chat, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how information is handled, we will note it in the app’s release notes as well.
9. Contact us
Questions about this policy or about your data can go to support@curiouscat.consulting, or through the chat on our support page.
